U.S. News & World Report gave plaudits to Wittenberg as top among liberal arts colleges. The Princeton Review’s list of 371 best colleges ranked it 19th in the category “Professors get high marks,” 17th among “Most Beautiful Campuses,” and 18th among “Everyone plays intramural sports.” The Fiske Guide to Colleges for "Small Colleges and Universities Strong in Drama" named the university as one of only 23 institutions in the nation for the fourth year in a row, placing Wittenberg alongside
such schools as Julliard, Vassar and Princeton.
Clark State Community College has made impressive strides since its inception as a technical school in 1962. Most recent numbers show that there are more than 4,300 students enrolled at the college—a 27 percent increase over the previous year. The college offers more than 50 career-oriented associate degrees and certificates in business, health, human services, and engineering technologies, as well as pre-baccalaureate transfer degrees.
Home to 3,000 Christian students, Cedarville University is an accredited, Baptist university of arts, sciences, professional, and graduate programs. Cedarville was rated by U.S. News & World Report as the sixth best baccalaureate college in the Midwest. The University received numerous first-place rankings in the Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory. When compared to all 288 institutions that participated in the survey, Cedarville was first on seven out of 81 items, including commitment
to academic excellence, variety of courses offered, and the quality of the career services office.
Just north of Springfield, Urbana University has an interesting history. John Chapman, better known as “Johnny Appleseed,” laid the groundwork for the founding of the University. It is an independent liberal arts institution with an average class size of 16. The approximate 1,500 students are able to create lasting bonds with professors, 74 percent of whom hold a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in their subject area.
