Curated Home Design Store Attracts Shoppers to Downtown Springfield

Duo Home, located at 149 West Jefferson St. in Springfield, Ohio, is a designer’s paradise - even if the designer is simply selecting furnishings for their own home. Careful cultivation of designer decor, one-of-a-kind pieces, and heirloom quality furnishings have made Duo Home a go-to destination for shoppers throughout Springfield and the larger Dayton/Columbus markets. You can find, for example, hand loomed 100% cotton rugs at Duo Home - not an item easily found elsewhere. They also carry imported products, such as stunning pots crafted in Italy and European linens. Of course, stunning design can also be found close to home and Duo is where you will find locally-sourced products. Ohio designer Treffry Caldwell, for example, hosted a trunk show at Duo Home to showcase her Pluma Jewelry line. The pieces were truly stunning.
“You can always find something unique at Duo Home. They have definitely added to the cool vibe in Downtown Springfield,” said Christopher Schutte, Vice President Destination Marketing + Communications for the Greater Springfield Partnership. “They have become a popular destination for anyone looking for a unique gift or showcase piece, simply because you won’t see what they carry in a big box store.”
Duo Home also hosts art classes and educational events aimed at inspiring community members to create something beautiful for their own homes. An "Herbes de Provence" potting demonstration, printmaking class, and watercolor class are just a few of the classes they have recently hosted.
The store was included in the Best of Springfield 2023, and owners Vicki Rulli and Tom Heaphey celebrated the store’s one year anniversary in September. “We are so thankful and grateful for the support and love everyone has shown Duo.”
Vicki and Tom started their business with help from the Springfield SBDC, who assisted with the financing necessary to fill Duo Home with beautiful products. Entrepreneurs in Springfield and Clark County have access to the SBDC as one of the many tools to start or grow their business. “Springfield is an incredible place to start a business because there are so many people to support you,” said Schutte. “This is the best place to work and raise your family, and if you have a dream, you can achieve that here too.”
